What should I bring?

DrachenFest US

Last Update 8 months ago

DrachenFest is an immersive camping experience, so come prepared for both fantasy roleplay and real-world roughin' it.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Essentials:

  • Tent & sleeping gear – Bring your own tent, bedding, sleeping bag, pillow, and whatever you need to sleep comfortably outdoors.

  • Costume (kit) – You are responsible for your in-character clothing. Vendors may sell costume pieces at the event, but there’s no guarantee you’ll find something that fits or suits your character, so come dressed and ready.

  • Toiletries – Toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant, menstrual products, etc.

  • Food & water – There will be some food vendors, but you are ultimately responsible for feeding yourself for 4 days. Bring food, snacks, and plenty of drinking water. There is no catered meal plan.

  • Sturdy shoes – You’ll be walking a lot on uneven ground. Bring boots or shoes that fit the look and support your feet.

Weather Prep:

Expect heat, rain, and mud. The event takes place in June in Pennsylvania, which means sun, thunderstorms, and humidity are all likely.

Bring:

  • Sun protection: wide-brim hat, sunscreen, and breathable clothing

  • Rain gear: cloak, poncho, or waterproof outer layer (in theme if possible), plus a waterproof bag for valuables

  • Extra towels and extra socks—you’ll thank yourself when things get wet

  • Spare clothes in a waterproof container (trash bags inside your suitcase work well)

  • Stakes & guy lines to keep your tent secure in high winds

  • A tarp or groundsheet under your tent to keep it dry

  • Ventilation options for your tent in hot weather

  • A folding chair or stool (preferably one that looks the part) for downtime

Other Recommended Gear:
  • Headlamp or lantern for night

  • First aid kit

  • Camp stove or cooking gear (fire rules apply)

  • Mug, bowl, utensils, and water bottle

  • Extra costume pieces (in case of damage or rain)

  • Basic repair kit (needle, thread, duct tape)

When in doubt, ask your campmates or coordinator—many camps share resources like fire pits, cookware, or communal shelters.
